Eden Project to have dedicated campsite

One of Britain’s top tourist attractions is to get its own dedicated campsite this summer.

The Eden Project in Cornwall will be opened up to tents for two months as part of a link-up with the Youth Hostels Association.

The camping facilities will be available for 60 days during July and August and will be able to accommodate up to 80 campers.

It’s the first time the Eden Project – listed in June’s Camping magazine as one of the 10 coolest places in Britain to visit – has had permanent camping onsite and it is expected that the YHA will operate the facilities every year.

Located within walking distance of the famous Eden Biomes, the campsite will be on Little Carne Farm which was purchased by Eden last year. The site will have catering and washing facilities and prices will start at £13 per adult per night (£8 for under-18s).

Entry to Eden can also be purchased with camping through YHA and includes unlimited access to the attraction for the duration of the stay. YHA camping packages are also being offered for the Eden Sessions concerts featuring Elbow and Pixies that are taking place during July.

The YHA is also seeking planning permission to open a 58-bedroom youth hostel at Eden later this year, which will replace the nearby YHA Golant.

David Harland, Joint Executive Director of the Eden Project, said: "Working closely with the YHA will enable us to develop the first-ever public campsite at Eden. We are looking forward to having this in place in time for the summer season in advance of our hoped-for Youth Hostel which is now awaiting planning permission."

Caroline White, Chief Executive of YHA (England and Wales), added: “Having glamping, camping and Youth Hostel facilities at Eden will enable us to reach many more young people and their families each year.”

The YHA said it is investing £250,000 million on providing camping pitches and glamping/chalet pods at seven of its youth hostels. A number already have glamping/chalet pods; including South Downs, Hawkshead and Grinton Lodge.
