Tourism push for north Swansea after global praise for Gower beaches

Rhossili Beach on Gower may have been named one of the world’s best beaches beating off competition from beauty spots in Hawaii and Australia.

But tourism officials in Swansea are now highlighting the visitor appeal of the city’s less celebrated northern parts.

Highlights of Swansea’s north include soaring Kestrels, Skylarks and Red Kites keen birdwatchers can spot in the Lliw Valley with its wealth of unspoilt common land.

And there are places history buffs will love such as the site of Swansea’s once thriving “copper kingdom” at Morfa near the Liberty Stadium alongside the River Tawe and the site of the Pontarddulais uprising which was part of the Rebecca Riots.

Tourism operators and local politicians have been given a tour of best parts of rural north Swansea in a bid to attract more visitors there in future.

It was part of a specialist tourism trade day organised by Swansea Council’s tourism team.

Local tourism information centres, hotels and country cottage accommodation providers were among the businesses that benefitted from the guided tour. - Camping pods for sale

A council spokesman said: “Participants learned all about north Swansea’s rich history and beauty.”
